The power of integrating dash cams with telematics insights
As standalone and OEM-installed dash cameras work in isolation, their video footage can be misaligned with the telematics logs. Meanwhile, siloed video insights force managers to navigate multiple platforms to piece together the events that led to a safety incident. Many vehicles now also have Event Data Recorders (EDR), otherwise known as “Black Boxes”, installed, but these can be hard to access. In contrast, the GO Focus system integrates directly with the MyGeotab fleet management platform via the GO9 telematics device, creating a unified and accessible safety narrative. Geotab’s Full HD (road-facing) and HD (cab-facing) video footage is presented alongside rich data from the telematics unit, providing a full context of any safety-related incident. Video clips can be prioritised for managerial review according to each fleet’s specific safety concerns, with the ability to filter by repeat offenders and high-risk activities, reducing the administrative burden on safety managers and ensuring that the most safety-critical videos are highlighted for driver training. Bridging the management gap GSR2 makes the ADDW in-cab “beep” mandatory, but it doesn’t help the safety manager. These new vehicles will warn the driver, but Geotab goes further to record and report for the manager through the MyGeotab platform. The OEM system creates another machine noise for the driver to contend with, while the GO Focus Plus unit is an integrated coaching platform that presents precise footage of critical safety events so that training can be personalised and based on real-world incidents. Autopairing for a streamlined, faster implementation Utilising an integrated camera solution also eases the implementation process, since the unit will auto-pair with the telematics device and self-calibrate, preventing the need for lengthy manual setups and the risk of synchronisation errors that could lead to inaccurate safety data. When the GO Focus unit is plugged into the GO9 telematics device, it instantly recognises the vehicle ID, immediately delivering accurate safety insights.
