Drayage insights Our drayage index stayed essentially flat across the study period, but Los Angeles/Long Beach reported their strongest month of 2026 (up ~12% from a year earlier). This contrast points to rail absorbing the growth. New York’s drayage remained more aligned, but it’s a truck-centric operation, with port-reported rail activity only about a third of San Pedro Bay.
Port truck trip volume slipped about 1% in San Pedro Bay while at the same time the port reported a 2% rise in official volumes per working day. At New York and New Jersey, drayage aligned more with container statistics. Across Q4 2025–Q2 2026 we analyzed an average 254,000 port entries per quarter for both ports.
