Taking action to decarbonise internal mobility: Geotab Sustainable Transportation Programme Geotab is translating its expertise in telematics into corporate climate action through its Sustainable Transportation Programme. This multi-pronged initiative targets Scope 3 emissions by addressing employee commuting and business travel.
Programme pillars and impact:
Electric vehicle incentives: To accelerate the transition to low-carbon personal transport, Geotab offers a subsidy of 25% (up to a defined maximum) for employee EV purchases. Since 2019, approximately 470 employees have participated, supported by 2 million USD (1.5 million GBP) in direct incentives. In 2025 alone, we estimated that participants avoided approximately 130 metric tons of CO 2 e through this initiative. 1 Infrastructure & data: Geotab maintains 41 free EV charging stations for staff and public use. Beyond providing essential infrastructure, these stations deliver critical R&D data used to optimise Geotab’s hardware and support broader energy efficiency. Zero-emission fleet: Launched in 2025, our dedicated electric pool car programme for business travel has displaced internal combustion engine use, resulting in a direct reduction of over 2,500 kg of CO 2 e in the first year. 2 1 This figure is calculated by applying an assumed activity data baseline of 15,000 km driven annually per participant. For all participants joining the programme in 2025, the estimated distance is prorated based on the specific month the incentive was issued. These avoided emissions are reported as a separate metric and are not deducted from Geotab’s Scope 3, Category 7 (Employee Commuting) inventory totals. 2 Avoided emissions from the electric pool car programme are calculated based on actual monthly mileage. The total reflects the difference between the emission factor for standard internal combustion engine passenger vehicles (the baseline) and the average electric vehicle (EV) emission factor.
Alternative commuting: To incentivise sustainable commuting alternatives, Geotab established the Public Transport Reimbursement Programme, which directly supports our goal of decarbonising employee commuting. We offer 100% reimbursement for public transit costs incurred between an employee's home and a Geotab office. Eligible expenses include train, metro, public bus fares, and bike rental services, actively encouraging multimodal and active commuting. Since its 2019 launch, Geotab’s direct investment in subsidising these alternatives totals more than 340,000 USD (255,000 GBP).
Sustainable Travel Policy: A "Sustainable Travel First" mandate prioritises the use of EVs for rentals and rideshares (e.g., Uber Electric).
Geotab won the SEAL Environmental Initiative Award for its Sustainable Transportation Programme carbon reduction efforts.
