Greenhouse gas emissions management Geotab is committed to operating responsibly by reducing our environmental footprint and improving efficiency. We remain focused on reducing emissions across our own operations and value chain, aligning our strategy with the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature increase. Our roadmap is guided by greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), including a 50% absolute reduction across Scopes 1, 2 (location-based), and 3 by 2030 relative to our 2019 base year. Furthermore, as a signatory of The Climate Pledge, we are dedicated to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040 — a full decade ahead of the Paris Agreement timeline.
In 2025, Geotab continued to make progress toward reducing its overall emissions footprint, while experiencing some variability across emissions scopes. Compared to 2024, Scope 2 (location-based) emissions decreased by 42.5%, primarily due to a strategic consolidation of facilities within high-intensity carbon grids. Additionally, the transition to an advanced carbon and energy management system has enabled access to the most current, localized emission factors available to date, allowing for a more accurate representation of our operational impact. Scope 1 emissions increased by 19.1%, primarily due to higher natural gas consumption at key operational locations, including our headquarters. This increase is consistent with prior-year drivers and highlights the importance of our ongoing efforts to transition away from fossil fuels through clean energy sourcing and the evaluation of on-site renewable energy generation opportunities. Scope 3 emissions decreased by 14% in 2025. This reduction is largely attributable to increased engagement with our supply chain and the adoption of more activity-based emissions data for key products. By transitioning from spend-based estimation methods to activity-based data, which more accurately reflects actual emissions, we improved the precision of our Scope 3 inventory and gained clearer insight into emissions across our value chain. This methodological enhancement strengthens our emissions accounting and supports more targeted Scope 3 reduction strategies moving forward.
A core component of our strategy is maintaining a detailed understanding of our impact through a GHG inventory, which we develop by following the methodologies and guidance provided by the GHG Protocol. In 2025, we implemented a new carbon and energy management platform to automate and refine our emissions calculations, ensuring audit-ready accuracy and streamlining data consolidation. This transition to higher-quality data aligns with the GHG Protocol principles of transparency and accuracy, allowing us to more effectively identify "hot spots" — the largest emission sources in our value chain—and focus our reduction efforts where they are most effective.
